Phonemes are not discrete or distinct from one another. They merge and disperse. My interest is to visualize this continuity in photographic prints that take spectral maps as a direct referent. Because sound occurs over time, the pieces “read” differently in time, as the eye takes in the whole spectrum at once, traveling subsequently to key areas of disturbance. The spectrogram is a meditation on time, while at the same time exploring the congruencies and conflations of visual and sonic perception.
